Went here due to the great reviews. Overall I don’t think it’s a bad place to eat I just personally didn’t love my food. May have been what I got, I’ve definitely had better Mexican food before. The churros were amazing tho! They also barely give you any chips and then if you get guac or something you need more chips and they kinda acted like they didn’t want to give us more, never had that happen at a Mexican restaurant before. Service overall was fast and friendly though.

Great local spot for delicious food and drinks! We always check reviews while traveling through towns to find highly rated restaurants and we would agree with others that this place is excellent. The tables are unique and the chairs super comfortable. Loved the artwork on the wall by the kitchen. The staff were friendly and attentive, the food flavorful, and my cucumber jalapeño margarita spicy! Thumbs up all around! If we were locals, this would be a regular spot for us. Thanks for the great experience. 😍

We drove in to try this restaurant after reading the reviews but were pretty disappointed. 😞 Queso was watery\milky and bland, chips were over toasted, almost burnt. Meals looked beautiful and were made with fresh ingredients but not how we expected. Spinach enchiladas, for example, had mushrooms, tomatoes, and onions inside with a few pieces of spinach. Shrimp tacos had good flavor but the shrimp 🍤 was over cooked. 😩 It didn't live up to the hype for us.

Previous reviewers are spot on! Bring an appetite for good food! Generous portions. Ordered the barbacoa tacos, tampiquena steak, and taquitos as an appetizer. These are REAL taquitos. Not the tiny wraps of seasoned meat. The tampiquena steak has a bit of heat, but is flavorful and tender.

I was really happy with this place. All of the food came out in less than 10 minutes, which is way faster than most restaurants I’ve been to. The service was excellent. The servers were super kind, always checking in on us, and helped with anything we needed. I even saw one of them wrapping utensils in napkins — they weren’t rushing like at other places. You could tell they really take their time and put care into the small things, which made the whole meal feel more special.
The food itself was amazing. My mom and I shared a plate with steak, beans, rice, guacamole, and pico de gallo — every bite was packed with flavor. My brother somehow finished a massive meal on his own, and my dad had the enchiladas, which looked and smelled incredible. For dessert, we ordered the churros, and boy, were they good. They were filled with caramel, drizzled with even more caramel and chocolate, and came with a big pile of whipped cream to scoop with. Definitely one of the best parts of the meal.
The atmosphere was also really nice. It wasn’t crowded, so it felt peaceful and calm — a perfect spot to enjoy a meal with family. The lighting was soft and relaxing, and there was a great-looking bar in the corner if that’s something you’re interested in. The whole place had a warm, cozy vibe that made us feel comfortable right away. If you’re ever in Colorado, I highly recommend checking out El Campestre Mexican Restaurant. The food, the people, and the experience were all amazing. I’d definitely go back.

I went in expecting some solid food but ended up having the best Mexican food I've had in my life and I'm not exaggerating. The server Gerardo was very nice and attentive. We ordered Chicken fajita-bowl with fried tacos and spinach enchiladas. Each item was around $13+ dollors. Look at the picture I have uploaded. The quantity is very less. Great food and excellent margaritas! The staff was always friendly and the restaurant was super clean. We were so impressed, my husband and I ate ate at El Campestre 3 times in 1 week during our stay in Cortez. Ooooh, I’ve eaten Mexican all over the world, and this place rates right up there with the best. Service was great, food was top notch, prices are fair, even my Wife commented how satisfied she was. All the food (enchilada, chile relleno, and tamale) was great the style of Mexican food I enjoy. The waiter and cook were both friendly. I will be back to try other menu items.

Wonderful meal. Food was delicious and service was first class. Loved the chili relleno and the barbacoa. Even though we are traveling to Durango tomorrow, we discussed driving back just to eat here again

Great food, generous portions, tasty salsa. We had dinner here after touring the cliff dwellings. The staff was friendly and the service was quick. We will eat here again in the future if we are in the area.

This is a small place, unassuming from the outside, but they have excellence where it counts: the food! I tried the Pollo a la Crema with their homemade sour cream and it was fantastic. Don't sleep on this place for delicious, authentic fare!

Amazing place in Cortez, great quality in their food because it’s fresh, and delicious. The attention is really good too. If you want to enjoy authentic Mexican food go to El Campestre.

The Pollo Borracho was DELICIOUS. Fresh mushrooms are in this dish, and I have not had better!

If you’re looking for some great Mexican food…. This is it, great food and margaritas are perfect, the only reason I gave 4 stars is because it’s a bit hot in the restaurant, but other than that it’s great, Chili Rellenos the best!!

Don't understand the positive reviews! No atmosphere, bland food & poor service. The waiter & I'm guessing owner, told me they had been open only a month. Made no sense since there are many reviews. Only thing I can think of is there has been a change in ownership. Won't be going back.
